Student Opportunities

The Office of the Vice President supports special instructional, residential and scholarship programs that enhance the educational experience of UGA students. From programs like the themed Learning Communities to participation in the Washington Semester Program, students have multiple opportunities to add to the rich experience that is learning at UGA.


Air Force ROTC

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) provides a leadership program for University of Georgia students interested in earning a commission and entering the active duty Air Force, as an officer, after completing a bachelor’s degree.

Army ROTC

The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) offers students an opportunity to diversify their college curriculum by providing military science courses that prepare them with tools, training and experience to help them succeed in any competitive environment.

Extended Campuses

The University of Georgia offers opportunities for students to earn a UGA degree outside the main campus in several different locations in Georgia, including Griffin, Gwinnett County, Tifton and Buckhead. Several of UGA’s schools and colleges offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs, with applications accepted through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Graduate School.

First-Year Odyssey Seminar Program

With more than 300 class choices, the First-Year Odyssey seminars are designed to introduce students to the academic life of the university by allowing them to engage with faculty and other first-year students in a small-class environment.

First-Year Residential Learning Communities

The First-Year Residential Learning Community experience blends academic and residential life for first-year students by housing groups of twenty incoming students together in Creswell Hall and allowing each group to take classes together.

Franklin Residential College

The Franklin Residential College (FRC) at the University of Georgia infuses the intellectual and cultural excitement of a world-class university into the residential experience by placing a mix of students studying the humanities, the fine and performing arts, the social sciences and the basic sciences in the same residential community.

Freshman College Summer Experience

While attending Freshman College, first-year students will get an early jump on moving into a residence hall the summer before their first semester at UGA, while enrolling in six semester hours that include a core academic course and a course designed to enhance their transition to college.

Language Communities

The Language Communities provide a means for students to blend their residential and academic experiences by enabling them to explore the French-speaking and Spanish-speaking cultures through a simulated immersion environment.

Learning Communities

The Learning Communities program is a year-long commitment for first-year students who reside and work closely together and who share an interest in an area of academic concentration not necessarily related to their majors. The year-long experience of Learning Community students includes work with select faculty in special courses in a thematic area.

Pre-Law Advising Office

The Pre-Law Advising Office strives to provide timely and accurate advice to students considering application to colleges of law by assisting in the selection and applications processes, subsequently maximizing students’ chances for admission into the college of their choice.

The Premedical Studies Program contributes to the growing medical program at the University of Georgia by offering students courses and resources to prepare them for medical, dental or optometry school.

Service-Learning

The Office of Service-Learning provides a course-based, credit-bearing educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs, and allows the student to reflect on the service activity to gain further understanding of course content.

The Student Academic Honesty Council, a group of undergraduate and graduate students, is committed to serving the University community by increasing student awareness of "A Culture of Honesty" and more specifically to sharing with every student the commitment of the university to academic honesty.
